Fake Freeman!
Amanda has confirmed this isn’t the real Martin’s twitter so don’t follow/tweet the fake and hopefully they’ll soon get bored and stop!
Just a casual reminder that there are unfortunately many fake accounts out there. Benedict does not have one, for instance. But I know there are fake ones.
Fun fact time: many of my old acquaintances still make joking comments whenever they see me wearing pink, because as a child (and honestly pretty much right up to high school) I would refuse to associate with any pink objects.
It wasn’t because I didn’t like pink, it was because since I appeared female I was supposed to/ it was immediately assumed that I did and therefore it pissed me the ever-loving fuck off. I was ashamed to like it, which is terrible because pink is an awesome color. But when you shove it down young girls throats it gets really old, really fast.
Give the child the fucking rainbow, and if they pick pink, it’s not because they are female and/or effeminate, it’s because they like the color pink.
THIS.
Gosh this
Yup. Gpoy me too.
Also, pink was ONCE A COLOR FOR MEN ONLY. And BLUE was considered effeminate.
Yuppers.
It was because pink was considered energetic, lively, action-packed, like how one flushes after physical exertion, you get pink playing in the dirt, truly a manly color.
And blue was calm, serene, demure, the sort of color that sits on the sidelines and does needle-point while her hubby is all manly and pink playing rugby in the dirt.
Just adding a bit of pointless knowledge to that.
Until about 1900, red was the colour of men. Blood is red, it’s the colour of rage and fighting. Pink is the “little” red, and therefore, it was the colour of boys. If you look at old paintings of royal families, you often see young boys in deep red clothing.
On the other hand, blue was always the colour of Mary, mother of God. Ever looked at christian paintings with her? The blue shawl/cloak is always there. Blue was the colour of mothers, and it’s still seen as a calming and serene colour. Thus the “little” blue belonged to the girls.
The funny thing is, those concrete assignment of colour to gender mostly happened in the upper class. The babies of “normal” people were all dressed in plain white clothes, because it those clothes needed to be washed very often and the colours back then weren’t exactly suitable for a washing at 90°C.
Oh, and by the way, you know what changed that? Ever looked at when the “blue washed” clothing became popular in Europe, like blue coveralls and jeans? Right around that time. The middle class connected the colour blue to men, because it was “their” colour when they were working.
And so the meaning basically … switched, and it happened just about 90 years ago.
